The police in Nasarawa State say they have arrested Henry Omaku, the state chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for allegedly snatching ballot papers during Saturday’s governorship and state House of Assembly elections in Doma Local Government Area of the state.
Backstory: The state Commissioner of Police (CP), Bola Longe, confirmed Omaku’s arrest Sunday. The CP said Omaku had been quizzed by the force over the incident.
He said “The command is aware that Omaku was alleged to have snatched electoral materials in Doma. We arrested him, but the suspect denied that he snatched electoral materials. The suspect said he went to a polling unit in Doma as an accredited observer, but he was attacked by some voters and rescued by policemen. We have also interrogated the policemen that were there.”
Longe said Omaku was granted but will however be invited for further questioning if new evidence against him surfaces.
It was reported that Omaku had allegedly snatched the electoral materials from the Kofar Abari Bunu Polling Unit in Unguwar Galadima Ward in the Doma LGA.
