The presidential candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Eniola Ojajuni, has stepped down for the candidate of the People’s Trust (PT), Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim.
Backstory: With less than two months to the 2019 general elections, Ojajuni in a signed statement issued in Abuja through his Chief Press Secretary, Hassan Ibrahim, said his decision followed intensive talks and consultations with members and party leaders of the AD. He asked his supporters to support the PT candidate with the same level of vim as they did him.
Ojajuni described Olawepo-Hashim, Ojajuni as “a man of his words full of passion and intelligence which gave him an edge over his opponents”.
On his part, Olawepo-Hashim, hailed the new alliance, stating that it was properly thought out and not taken lightly.
Bottom line: In the coming weeks, more candidates are expected to drop out of the race. This is partly why INEC is yet to release a definitive list of candidates who would be on the ballot next year.
