Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, has allegedly disrupted the sitting of a faction of the State House of Assembly.
Backstory: The Governor reportedly arrived the complex of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly where five sacked lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress were meeting.
A battle between both factions has since commenced within the premises of the State National Assembly.
There have been reports of gunfire by security men as youths tried to pursue Nse Ntuen, Speaker of the faction and four others out of the chambers and assembly premises.
It has been reported that Ntuen and his faction arrived the chambers earlier than the scheduled time for plenary with the intention to impeach Governor Udom Emmanuel
However, the Governor arrived the venue with members of his cabinet and security details, at about 10 a.m. and disrupted the meeting.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has previously claimed that the APC is plotting to illegally take control of apparatus in Akwa Ibom.
The reported events of today are perhaps a climax of a situation which has gradually been building, particularly in the previous week.
As at when this report was published, neither the APC nor the PDP has released official statements in response to the situation.
