A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Bolaji Akinola, has accused Governor Ibikunle Amosun of impoverishing the state and of always seeking to impose his will on the party.
Describing the governor as the real problem of the APC in Ogun state, Akinola stated that Amosun’s habit of hand-picking and imposing candidates on the APC ought to be a source of concern for all well-meaning APC members.
He said in a statement released on Tuesday that “Only those hand-picked by Amosun were returned to office.”
Akinola added, “I fully participated in all the congresses and I can tell you authoritatively that there was no voting anywhere except in Ifo Constituency 1 and that was because the Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Honourable Taiwo Oluomo, who is the lawmaker from Ifo constituency, defied Amosun and insisted that the right thing be done.”
“During the state congress in May also, there were no elections.
“No party member can come out and say they voted for any candidate. All the party executives that emerged, from the Chairman, Chief Derin Adebiyi, to the lowest position, were all hand-picked by Amosun the night before.”
Akinola went further to say that the people of Ogun State had had enough of Amosun and will resist any attempt by the governor to impose an unpopular candidate on the state as his successor.
Akinola said to journalists that “The real primaries in the Ogun State APC was the one that produced Dapo Abiodun as our governorship candidate. Every other thing, including the so-called primaries conducted by the Derin-led exco, which purportedly produced Abdulkadri Akinlade, is nothing but a sham.”
Amosun has been in the news recently for being one of the aggrieved members of the APC following a series of conflicts during the recently concluded primary elections.
He is reportedly bent on having his anointed candidate as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state, however, this has not been the case as the party has chosen to go with the candidate produced by a rival faction of the party. If the allegations against Amosun are true, it would explain why he is dissatisfied with Adams Oshiomhole’s leadership and reportedly working to remove the party’s national chairman.
