Quick Take: Two consecutive Nigerian first ladies hold South Korean degrees

Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari is presently in South Korea to obtain a honorary Doctorate Degree from a South Korean University, Sun Moon University, Asan.

The University is conferring Mrs. Buhari with an honorary Doctor of Humanity (Hon. Causa) degree based on her humanitarian activities and “outstanding work with women and children through Future Assured Programme.”

Tradition?:

Aisha Buhari’s latest award from South Korea is similar to the one obtained by her predecessor in that office, Patience Jonathan who was honoured by another South Korean University, the Hansei University based on her humanitarian work “for the less privileged in Nigeria and Africa especially for women and children.”

Mrs. Jonathan during her time as the first lady received about four honorary doctorate degrees while this is the first for Mrs. Buhari.

What else?:

Mrs. Buhari would also receive a World Leadership Award from another university in South Korea, Ajou University, Suwon, on the 14th of August and would commission a seminar hall named after her on the campus.
