Once again, the senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, was absent in court on Thursday to answer to charges of gun running levelled against him.
The two people charged alongside him -Kabir Seidu and Nuhu Salihu – were however present in court.
Melaye’s never ending drama
According to Melaye’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, the lawmaker’s absence in court was on health grounds.
However, just yesterday, Melaye was one of several senators present when the senate president Bukola Saraki addressed a press conference at the national assembly premises.
The last time the case was supposed to be heard, Melaye was also absent. He claimed at the timeaye c that he was almost shot at and burned in his car by unknown assailants. He said he managed to escape into the bush.
“I jumped into the bush, and I started running. They pursued me and I was able to outmanoeuvre them and climb a tree. I was on top of the three when I saw them run past looking frantically for me. When they didn’t find me, they also ran back,” he said.
