The drama involving Kogi Senator Dino Melaye is still ongoing. Melaye is reportedly at the National Hospital in Abuja after attempting to evade arrest and arraignment on Tuesday. He was visited at the hospital on Wednesday by senators led by senate president Bukola Saraki.
While that situation continues to unfold, another senator – Peter Nwaoboshi – has been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos. Nwaoboshi, who represents Delta North, is being accused of fraud amounting to N322 million.
- Nwaoboshi was arraigned alongside two firms – Golden Touch Construction Project Limited and Suiming Electricals Limited – on charges bordering on conspiracy and money laundering.
- The EFCC said that Nwaoboshi and Golden Touch Construction Project Limited purchased a property (Guinea House, Marine Road, Apapa, Lagos) for N805m between May and June 2014. Of the amount paid for the property, N322 million was part of proceeds of “an unlawful act, to wit: fraud.” The EFCC alleged that the N322m was transferred to the vendor of the property on the orders of Suiming Electricals Limited, which the EFCC accused of aiding Nwaoboshi to commit money laundering.
- The presiding judge in the matter is Justice Mohammed Idris, and all the defendants have pleaded not guilty.
