The recall process for Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye is now set to proceed following last week’s ruling by the Court of Appeal dismissing the senator’s attempt to stop the process.
On Wednesday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Kogi, Professor James Apam, fixed the last Saturday of April (28th) as the date of verification and the first Saturday of May (5th) as date for the referendum.
The verification day is when all those who signed the recall register are expected to come forward and identify their signature.
Following that would be the referendum date when “voters will be asked to vote either yes or no to the question of whether they want Senator Dino Melaye recalled,” said Apam at a stakeholders forum on Wednesday in Lokoja.
“If the answer was able to meet the constitutional requirements of 51 percent yes,the process moves to the next stage but if it fails, the process stops,” Apam said.
Meanwhile Sen. Melaye has said that he would appeal the ruling of the Court of Appeal before the nation’s highest court, the Supreme Court.
