The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, sign into law the Petroleum Industry Governance Bills (PIGB) passed into law by the National Assembly.
It should be pointed out though that while Dogara is in a hurry to ask the president to assent to the bill, the National Assembly is yet to transmit it to him, something which the Speaker says will be done “within the next few days.”
The Dogara-led House of Representatives finally passed the important bill on Wednesday, about eight months after the senate passed its own version.
Bragging a bit, the speaker said the “parliament had to move on and pass it’s own version of the Bill following failure of the Executive to present a draft bill to the National Assembly.”
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media & Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, Speaker Dogara, described the passage of the PIGB, as historic and landmark achievement by the 8th National Assembly.
Dogara promised that work will still continue on other aspects of the petroleum industry by the National Assembly in accordance with the 8th Assembly’s Legislative Agenda.
