Fayose throws a “Walk-On-The-Streets” challenge and 2 other challenges for Fayemi

Governor Ayodele Fayose has responded to the comments made by his predecessor and Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Kayode Fayemi that he is likely to go to jail when he loses his immunity. Governor Fayose responded through his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka and here are 3 takeaways from his response.

Walk-On-The-Streets Challenge

Fayose challenged Fayemi to take a walk on the streets of Ado Ekiti without his security details. He also offered a specific route that his predecessor should take: From Fajuyi Park to the All Progressives Congress (APC) office in Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti.

“Fact is, even a councillor in Ado Local Government is more popular than Fayemi and he can let us prove this by walking the streets in the state capital without his retinue of security aides,” he said.

Point-Your-Benefits-To-Ekiti-As-Minister Challenge

The governor said that the Minister has been unable to attract any benefit to the people of Ekiti State as the Minister of Mines. However, Governor Fayemi in his earlier speech listed a few benefits he has attracted to the state as a cabinet minister and plans to set up a cottage industry for small-scale miners of solid minerals in Ijero Ekiti.

“As governor, Fayemi failed Ekiti people and as a minister, he is also failing Ekiti people because up till today, he cannot point to one benefit Ekiti has derived from having him as minister of Mines and Steel Development despite the numerous solid minerals in the state.”

He added hinting at a potential 2019 contest by Fayemi, “When he mounts the campaign podium, we want to know what he will be telling Ekiti people that he has done for the state as minister for Steel and Minerals Resources Development.”

Answer-Just-These-Two-Questions Challenge

Fayose maintained that Fayemi who is currently being probed by his administration for looting public funds during his tenure has been unable to answer several questions and specifically challenge him to answer just two.

“(1) How a limited liability company with N15 million share capital could be used to borrow N5 billion and (2) When it became the duty of Fountain Holdings Limited to construct roads, are two questions Fayemi has refused to answer.”

He also accused Fayemi of awarding contracts to fictitious companies and taking away government property illegally.

“A man who as governor, awarded contract of over N600 million to a company with no traceable address and carted away 17 Joylong Buses that Coscharis Motors supplied to the Ekiti State Government as gift can only be a minister under a government of treasury looters like that of President Buhari.”
