Governors from six Northern states paid a solidarity visit to Abia state on Monday. They were led by the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Kashim Shettima.
Other governors who visited include: Simon Lalong of Plateau State, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State and Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Kebbi State. They were received by the Abia governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.
All the visiting governors belong to the All Progressives Congress (APC) while the host governor is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The visiting governors commended Ikpeazu for his leadership during the recent security challenges involving the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) group.
“We are here to thank our brother, Governor Ikpeazu, for his leadership at a time when the nation needs quality leadership. He rose to the occasion. He saved the nation from danger. We, the leaders, have a role to play in the peace and unity of this nation and leadership is about having perfection, it’s about symbolism,” Shettima said.
“We are here also to address the northern communities. We do not want any mass exodus from any part of the country to the other. In times of crisis and challenges, this our brother governor refused to toe the line of others but rose to the challenge of leadership. He imposed curfew and that brought about a lot of sanity.”
