Not much has been heard from retired Gen. Theophilus Danjuma since January when he asked that some Niger Delta warlords like Asari Dokubo and Government Ekpemupulo be arrested for threatening war if President Goodluck Jonathan is not reelected.
Today however, he was a guest of the president behind closed doors at the president’s residence for about 15 minutes.
Danjuma was received by the president in front of his residence and after the meeting, the president also saw him off to the same spot.
Danjuma however denied that his visit had anything to do with politics.
When reporters approached him, he said the agenda of the short meeting was confidential and advised journalists not to speculate over it.
He said having just returned to the country from a foreign trip, he needed to see Jonathan and find out developments in the country.
“Don’t speculate. I came to visit the President and find out how things are going. I have been abroad. I just came back,” he said.
When asked whether he was ready to support Jonathan’s re-election, Danjuma said he could not canvass votes for anybody because he does not belong to any political party.
“I don’t canvass (for votes). I am not in any of the political parties. The President is Nigeria’s President,” he said.
Danjuma is viewed as the most influential man in Taraba state where he has thrown his weight behind the PDP candidate for governor, Darius Ishiaku.
