A major domestic airline operator in Nigeria, Arik Airline, has disputed the claim by the minister of aviation, Osita Chidoka, that some of the airline staff were involved in theft of aviation fuel from its plane.
According to the airline, that just did not happen.
Arik Air said in a statement signed by its spokesman, Adebanji Ola, on Wednesday that it does not even have any aircraft in its fleet with registration number 5N MID, as claimed by the minister.
It said that its own investigations revealed that the three people who were caught at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on Sunday, February 15, were drawing fuel from a fuel truck and not from an Arik aircraft as reported by the minister on his Facebook page.
Ola, however, added that the suspects were arrested by the FAAN Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel.
