A former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Darius Ishaku, emerged as the winner of the Taraba State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary which held at the party national headquarters in Abuja and not in Taraba.
Ishaku who is the favoured candidate of the godfather of Taraba politics, Theophilus Danjuma, polled 170 votes.
The former acting governor of the state, Garba Umar, who until his ouster by the courts last month was on his way to getting the ticket, had to step down and will now be the PDP candidate for Taraba North senatorial district.
Ishaku, who is largely seen as a consensus candidate is from Takum Local Government Area of the state, has been an advocate of power to the southern senatorial district.
Delegates from the 16 local government areas of the state were in attendance.
