Ekiti governor, Kayode Fayemi, has appointed new caretaker chairmen for the 16 local government areas in the state. Their tenure will run for six months.
The swearing-in event took place at the Government House, Ado Ekiti and according to the governor, his action was in pursuance of statutory law granted to him after the expiration of the tenure of the last executive on midnight of 18th February.
Among those sworn in today were Tope Olaonipekan (Ado- Ekiti) Dr. Adio Afolayan, (Efon) Sunday Ajidara (Ekiti East), Mr Yemi Alatise (Ekiti south West), Akin Alade(Ekiti West), Adewale Febisola (Emure), Mr Femi Awe (Gboyin), Kehinde Ogunlade (Ido Osi), Chief Dele Olatoyin (Ido Osi), Prince Adegoroye (Ido Osi), Capt Awe Tajudeen (Irepodun Ifelodun), Deji Ajayi (Ise/Orun), Olakanmi Olasehedin (Moba), Akindele Ogunluyi (Oye).
The newly appointed chairmen of Ikere and Ijero Ekiti were absent however as they were said to be on special assignment.
Governor Kayode Fayemi lauded the efforts of Ekiti council officials who take governance down to the grassroots.
“Your appointment rattles through diligence, character and commitment to the vision of government. Local Government plays a formidable role in promoting empowerment and governance at the grass root. They are in best position to feel and connect more to our people.
“I will not leave here without eulogizing the giant strides of council leadership in realizing infrastructural development, adequate road infrastructure and also ensuring seamless intervention on issues that affect people pro actively. One of the mandates is the realization of 180 kilometers road in each local Government starting with 5km which we already flagged off. Each council is also saddled with the construction of modern markets that will ease the commercial stress of market women and people of the state.
“We also have LG medium term expenditure framework, prudent and resourceful for the benefit of the people which will be presented tomorrow Thursday, 20th February. N614m has been released as aid to ensure every community benefits from governance through community development,” he said.
Fayemi, however, urged them to carry their people along in their activities.
“Do not let them down; you should be guided by principle and ethics of your office. Hard work, discipline and diligence should also be your watchword,” he said.
In attendance were Special Advisers, Deputy Governor Prof Modupe Adelabu, SSG, Alhaji Ganiu Owolabi and Chief Of Staff, Yemi Adaramodu. Also present were the Women Leader of APC, Mrs Funke Owoseni, Deputy Chairman of APC Chief Falusi and Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dr Adewale Ominrin.
